Positive visuals effect serotonin levels |

The fact that the material that goes into one's mind affects one's way of thinking is nothing new, but scientists and psychologists in the west are only just cottening on to the unmistakeable relationship between enhanced serotonin levels (the chemical in the brain that makes you happy, which is often stimulated by the use of recreational drugs) and meditation.
However, unlike the use of artificial stimulants like ecstacy (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4315305.stm), meditation does not depleat serotonin reserves. The brain produces a finite amount of the hormone which can be lost or at best reduced significantly due to over use of chemical substances, eventually leading to depression. By pursuing positive activities such as meditation and by focussing on positive imagery, serotin levels can actually increase, thereby lifting the mood and developing a sense of wellbeing. |
